We have accidently acquired 2 bird nests; one about 2 months ago when after a night of torrential rainfall and another, last Friday when the wind was howling announcing that the cool season has arrived. They were both on the ground in the garden at Khao Yai with the occupants gone. No egg shells. No feathers. They have fallen from the big trees.
I can only assume that the owners are 2 different species from the designs of the nests. The first one amazingly has a self-made perch for the bird to sit sheltered by the dome from the weather. Kind of like an umbrella with a seat underneath.

ฉันเดาว่าเจ้าของรังทั้งสองคงเป็นนกต่างชนิดกันจากการออกแบบรังที่ไม่เหมือนกัน รังแรกน่าทึ่งมากเพราะมีคานทำเองสำหรับนั่งใต้หลังคาโดมกันฝนกันแดด คล้ายๆกับที่นั่งใต้ร่ม
The second one is a cocoon from which you enter at the bottom.

Both are compactly woven.

I was in awe of what natural instinct can create. These birds obviously have never been schooled to make things. Yet they make their houses with care, commitment and refinement. Michel and I have seen trees in the compound full of these nests in the rainy season. We both don’t have enough knowledge of the birds but we are learning by observation. These birds care for their nests every day. There is never a moment when they do not fix their houses. They always have a new blade of grass or a branch to take home. We have seen the nests when they were green from fresh grass and when they turn brown by the sun. We never thought to take the nests from the trees. Now they are our treasures.
The cool weather that we are having now is a signal that the new flock of birds will arrive from the north soon.

อากาศที่เย็นลงเป็นสัญญาณว่าอีกไม่นานจะมีนกฝูงใหม่มาจากทางเหนือ
