Summer in Japan this year has been alternatively wet and sweltering. We had a tentative plan of what we wanted to do and we were also checking the weather report everyday in case we needed to change the plan.

ฤดูร้อนปีนี้ที่ญี่ปุ่นมีทั้งฝนทั้งแดด เรามีแผนเที่ยวในแต่ละวันแบบคร่าวๆพอเป็นไอเดียแล้วคอยดูพยากรณ์อากาศอยู่เรื่อยๆเผื่อต้องเปลี่ยนแผน

“Don’t go there tomorrow. I will be raining all day and it is already difficult to get there.” Our tourist information guide warned us. “ You know that you have to take two different trains and two different local buses to Miyama Cho. If you miss the bus then you might have to stay the night. There aren’t many places where you can stay”

I discussed this matter with Michel and sure enough we went. The trip took about 2 hours to get there.

“อย่าไปเลยค่ะ ช่วงนี้ฝนชุก ไปก็ยาก” พนักงานบริการข้อมูลนักท่องเที่ยวบอก “คุณก็รู้ว่าต้องไปรถไฟสองขบวนแล้วไปต่อรถเมล์ท้องถิ่นอีกสองครั้งกว่าจะถึงมิยามาโฉะ ถ้าพลาดคิวรถก็แย่เลย ต้องค้างคืน ยิ่งไม่คอยมีที่พักอยู่”

ฉันปรึกษากับมิเชลแล้วตัดสินใจว่ายังไงก็จะไป การเดินทางครั้งนี้ใช้เวลาทั้งหมดประมาณสองชั่วโมง

We were lucky that we had occasional light rain which made the village even more picturesque in the fog. When the fog lifted, all we could see was this beautiful north village with flowers in full bloom. I love the rural life, the local bus ride, the green hills and the fishermen by the river. Though the village was small, it was well preserved. There were also plenty of surprises including Mr Hiroyuki Shindo, the world famous expert on indigo dye at The Little Indigo Museum and the proprietor at the village restaurant where we had lunch. We didn’t ask him for his name. We were struck by his strength of kindness and warmth when we discovered after our lunch that we had no more cash. We had spent what little we had at the museum with all the gifts we bought thinking that one of us would have the rest of the cash. We also thought that there would be an ATM machine there but there was not. The owner took Michel in the car to another village and the ATM didn’t accept his card for some reason unknown to us. So we paid with US dollars and Euros to the correct amount and the man was so gracious given what happened. He said that last year he went on a trip to France and he really enjoyed Mont Saint Michel. That is as much as we could understand because he spoke in Japanese. Lovely people. Lovely place.

โชคดีที่ฝนตกปรอยๆเป็นช่วงๆ ทำให้หมอกลงเป็นหย่อมหมู่บ้านเลยดูบรรยากาศดี พอหมอกจางเราเห็นดอกไม้บานสะพรั่งประดับประดาทุกซอกมุมของหมู่บ้านฝั่งเหนือ ฉันชอบชีวิตชนบท รถเมล์เล็ก ทุ่งนาเขียวชอุ่ม คนตกปลาริมแม่น้ำ แม้หมู่บ้านนี้จะเล็กแต่ก็ถูกอนุรักษ์ไว้เป็นอย่างดี มีอะไรมาเซอร์ไพรส์เราหลายอย่าง เช่นมิวเซียมผ้าย้อมคราม Little Indigo Museum เจ้าของชื่อคุณฮิโรยูกิ ชินโด คนนี้ไม่ธรรมดาเลย เป็นถึงปรมาจารย์เรื่องย้อมครามระดับโลกเลยนะ แล้วอีกคนหนึ่งที่เราอยากกล่าวถึงคือเจ้าของร้านอาหารร้านเดียวของที่นั่น ที่ๆเราไปทานข้าวกลางวัน เสียดายลืมถามชื่อเขา เราซึ้งในน้ำใจและความอบอุ่นจากมิตรไมตรีที่มีต่อเราตอนที่เราพบว่าเราเงินหมด เอาละสิ คืออย่างนี้ เรามีเงินเหลือกันคนละนิดตอนเดินทางมา ต่างฝ่ายต่างคิดว่าอีกคนคงมีสตางค์เลยซื้อของฝากจากมิวเซียมไปจนหมด ปรากฏว่าไม่มีเหลือทั้งสองคน เราชะล่าใจว่าต้องมีตู้เอทีเอ็มแถวนั้น ปรากฎว่าไม่มี เจ้าของร้านเลยพามิเชลบึ่งรถไปอีกหมู่บ้านหนึ่งแต่ตู้เอทีเอ็มที่นั่นก็ไม่รับบัตรด้วยเหตุผลอะไรไม่ทราบได้ เราเลยต้องขอจ่ายเงินเป็นสกุลยูเอสกับยูโรที่มีติดกระเป๋ามา เจ้าของร้านก็รับด้วยรอยยิ้มทั้งที่เราทำอะไรเด๋อด๋ามาก เขาบอกด้วยว่าเมื่อปีที่แล้วเขาเที่ยวฝรั่งเศสมา ชอบที่ม็องต์แซ็งต์มิเชล จับใจความได้ประมาณนี้เพราะเขาพูดภาษาญี่ปุ่น คนน่ารัก หมู่บ้านน่ารักเนอะ
