Enjoying...

I find the common variety of garden plant very refreshing. I always wanted to grow Aloe Vera for a long time. I like the form and the pale green color. I also like the fact that it is a useful plant for ointment and for eating. Since this type of plant is so common in Thailand, I am a little surprised that they are not so easy to find in the shops. In fact it is easier to ask someone if they could give it to you. These are bought though.

I bought these pillows with handles around 3 months ago. They were sent by mail from Hand-ROOM in Chiangmai. They make colorful addition to our handmade home in Khao Yai.

Plants that don't need a lot of watering. This is good for when we are not here to look after them. Different types of succulents allow me an opportunity to play with visual composition. When they grow, the composition will alter. I understand now how some people are obsessed by bonsai or something. I could look at these all day.

Our cotton plant has pink flowers. Nobody ever told me they look this sweet. When the flowers fall off, the seeds become large and feels like a wooden ball.

Opposite Fueng Nakorn Bookshop, there is a shop selling Kanom Jeen and Mee Koraj (Koraj Noodle). The owner came to our table and started to play Thai music exclusively for us. So we grabbed his instruments and formed a band.

I still use computer access to the internet. When we were in France from mid September to mid October, there was pretty limited internet access the entire time, and that which was available was very expensive. Anyway, I didn’t want to spend all the time on the internet. Being away from the internet allows more time to look around and really appreciate what is around you. But it meant that when I came back it was difficult to get started on blogging and facebook again. I simply lost my rhythm.

ฉันยังเป็นมนุษย์ที่ต้องใช้คอมพ์ในการเข้าอินเตอร์เน็ต ตอนอยู่ที่ฝรั่งเศสช่วงกลางเดือนกันยาถึงกลางเดือนตุลาเราแทบไม่ได้ใช้อินเตอร์เน็ตกันเลย เพราะไม่มีโอกาสและทุกครั้งที่มีอินเตอร์เน็ตให้ใช้ก็ต้องใช้แบบระมัดระวังเพราะแพงเกินเหตุ ยังไงฉันก็ไม่อยากใช้เน็ตตลอดเวลา เอาเวลาไปทำอย่างอื่นและชื่นชมกับบรรยากาศรอบตัวดีกว่า ทำอย่างนี้จนชิน ตอนกลับมาเลยปรับตัวเข้าหาบล็อกกับเฟซบุ๊คได้อย่างยากลำบาก อ่อนซ้อมไม่เข้าจังหวะซ๊ะที

Another thing. As soon as I came back there was flood crisis so there were many other issues to consider. Also our Wi Fi system in Khao Yai is not the fastest. I lost touch with people, didn’t respond to mails (sorry) and blogging seems like something from the distant past. As you can see, I have started blogging again in the last two posts. I will do more from now on.

อีกอย่างนึง ตอนกลับมาก็เป็นช่วงงานเข้าวิกฤตน้ำท่วมพอดี เลยต้องไปใส่ใจกับประเด็นอื่นๆ ไวไฟที่เขาใหญ่ก็เดี๋ยวดีเดี๋ยวร้ายอืดอาดมาก ฉันเลยขาดการติดต่อกับเพื่อนฝูง ไม่ได้ตอบเมล์ (ขอโทษค่ะ) และการทำบล็อกดูเหมือนจะเป็นเรื่องในอดีต อย่างไรก็ดี ตอนนี้ฉันได้เริ่มกลับมาทำบล็อกใหม่ ทำได้สองเรื่องแล้ว จะทำเพิ่มไปเรื่อยๆ

Here are some pictures of autumn in France. We were fortunate that this year, the weather remained warm right up until the final stage of our visit. Usually, by early September it would rain and the temperature would drop dramatically. What we enjoy is to go walking up country and enjoy picking black berries by the side of the road. There were still quite a lot of black berries around.

It is not much fun waiting for the crisis to be over. There is no definite answer as to when the flood will be over. In the mean time, it certainly isn’t a holiday.

We make the best of what we have and carry on. We try to be hyper-productive in Khao Yai. Everything that needed to get fixed… got fixed. We comb through smaller details and re-assembled everything in better order. This includes giving away rid of old papers and empty envelopes. I think, when we finally get home we may have to re-look at what we have in Bangkok and see if we could simplify our lives a bit more. We should have a little bit less.

เราพยายามมากๆในการพยายามทำใจแล้วเดินหน้าต่อไป เราพยายามทำอะไรเยอะๆที่บ้านเขาใหญ่ อะไรที่ต้องซ่อมแซมเราก็ถือเป็นโอกาสที่จะทำเสียที ขุดคุ้ยทุกรายละเอียดที่ต้องปรับแก้แล้วจัดใหม่ให้สะดวกใช้มากขึ้น กระดาษเก่าและซองเปล่าที่วางไว้เป็นตั้งถูกเอาไปบริจาค คิดอยู่เหมือนกันว่าตอนเรากลับกรุงเทพคราวนี้คงต้องมองทุกอย่างในบ้านด้วยสายตาใหม่ ถึงเวลาแล้วที่จะต้องลดจำนวนข้าวของในบ้านลงให้เรียบง่ายกว่าเดิม

As we have no TV, Michel rewired the stereo system so that we could have better reception of the national news. Our radio sounds so much clearer now and we could consider our radio upgraded. The news about the floods are all confusing though.

เราไม่มีทีวีที่บ้านนี้ มีแต่สเตรีโอ มิเชลต้องปรับเสาอากาศให้รับคลื่นข่าววิทยุกระจายเสียงแห่งประเทศไทยได้ ตอนนี้เสียงชัดขึ้น  ถือว่าเราได้อั๊พเกรดเครื่องรับของเราเสียที แต่ข่าวที่ฟังอยู่กลับไม่ค่อยมีความชัดเจนเท่าไหร่

I tried something which I thought I would never be able to do that is to bake bread. I was inspired by this Anna’s post here and wanted to make some cinnamon bread. I first attempt was a complete flop. The dough didn’t rise. Then I found another recipe from this link. This is a result of my second attempt. It tastes good but could look better than this.

Michel has so much work to do in Bangkok that he decided to catch a mini bus to the city alone for a couple of days while I wait for him here.

Painted Furniture

With flood water on its way to the capital, we decided to evacuate from Bangkok last week. The route that we had to take to come to Khao Yai is a long one and it remains an only route to the north-east. Our usual route to Khao Yai takes more or less 2 hours but this time it took us almost 8 hours to get here.

อาทิตย์ที่แล้วตอนที่เราทราบข่าวว่ามวลน้ำจะเข้ากรุงเทพ เราสองคนตัดสินใจอพยพโดยใช้เส้นทางยาวอ้อมโลกซึ่งเป็นเส้นทางเดียวที่รถวิ่งเข้าอีสานได้ในตอนนั้น ทางปกติของเราจะใช้เวลาประมาณสองชั่วโมง แต่คราวนี้ต้องใช้เวลาถึงแปดชั่วโมง

In between trying to get some decent information about the flood, we decided to repaint the furniture. It is a task which we had postponed for ages. It has been exhausting but has kept us from anxiety at least for a little while.

The result is a combination of Tyrolean, Scandinavian and gypsy. Now we have a new storage for my art materials in the guest bathroom. I needed this thing for a long time.
