Dream Catcher

I was itching to weave for that sensation of putting the threads together to form some object. Normally you would need a loom but a loom is too big to fit in my house. I knew that even if I bought it I would not use it enough. This dream catcher is an easy project. I made it with some bendable twigs and left over ribbons. On Google image there is quite a lot of handmade dream catchers.

Techno Phobia

I might be showing my age but I think this post has more to do with my attitude or shortcomings rather than how old I am.

โพสต์นี้อาจทำให้ทุกคนเดาออกว่าฉันอายุประมาณเท่าไหร่แต่เจตนาของฉันคืออยากแชร์ทัศนคติและจุดด้อยมากกว่าตัวเลขอายุ

I have never been high tech. By that I mean all household electrical appliances and of course anything to do with the computer. It is the reason why I kept my old laptop for 10 years. I couldn’t bear to part with it. I have a serious case of technological phobia. The thought of getting a new computer and getting acquainted with something more like today’s computer scares me. I kept upgrading spare parts and adding more memory thinking that if I continued to do that this computer would continue to serve me. Despite everything that I did, the computer was losing its functions. I spent as much on spare parts and maintenance as what I paid for the computer until one day the spare parts were no longer available in the market. Obsolescence was inevitable. Then last month I noticed that the computer could not connect to the internet in my Khow Yai home. The connection has always been slow because we have to use the satellite dish system but this time there was no access. Michel’s computer could connect as per usual. I had to use his computer to send out a big file. Back in Bangkok I discover that although it was possible to use the internet, I couldn’t use Gmail or Facebook. The computer doctor told me that my main board has collapsed and it was time for the new computer. So I bought a new one. It turns out to be less than half the price I paid for my old laptop all those years ago and it is working brilliantly.

ฉันไม่เคยเป็นมนุษย์ไฮเท็ค ทั้งในเรื่องอุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าภายในบ้านและอุปกรณ์คอมพิวเตอร์ นี่เป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้ฉันเก็บแล็ปทอปนานนับ 10 ปี ฉันไม่อยากมีรุ่นอื่น มีอาการตื่นกลัวเทคโนโลยี แค่คิดว่าต้องทำความรู้จักและทำความเข้าใจคอมพิวเตอร์รุ่นใหม่ๆก็หนาวแล้ว ทางเลี่ยงของฉันคือการเปลี่ยนอะไหล่และเพิ่มเมมมอรีไปเรื่อยๆมุ่งหวังตั้งเอาว่าวิธีนี้จะทำให้คอมพ์ตัวเก่าจะยังรับใช้เราได้อยู่ต่อไป ทุกอย่างที่ทำไปไม่ได้ยุติการเสื่อมสภาพตามกาลเวลา ฉันจ่ายค่าซ่อมบำรุงและอะไหล่พอๆกับราคาซื้อคอมพ์ แล้ววันหนึ่งอะไหล่เรื่มขาดตลาด สิ่งที่แน่เสียยิ่งกว่าแน่คือคอมพ์ของฉันต้องหมดอายุขัย เมื่อเดือนที่แล้วตอนไปนอนที่บ้านเขาใหญ่คอมไม่สามารถเชื่อมต่ออินเตอร์เน็ตได้ เน็ตที่เขาใหญ่ไม่เร็วเท่าในกรุงเทพเพราะเราใช้ระบบจานดาวเทียมแต่คราวนี้มันไม่ทำงานเลย ส่วนคอมพ์ของมิเชลรับเน็ตได้ตามปกติ ฉันเลยต้องใช้คอมของมิเชลส่งไฟล์ขนาดใหญ่ กลับมากรุงเทพคอมพ์ยังเชื่อมต่อเน็ตได้แต่จีเมล์กับเฟสบุ้คใช้ไม่ได้ ช่างซ่อมบอกว่าเมนบอร์ดเสียแล้ว ได้เวลาเปลี่ยนคอมพ์เสียที ฉันเลยต้องไปซื้อคอมพ์ใหม่ ปรากฏว่าราคาถูกกว่าครึ่งของเครื่องเก่าแล้วเจ๋งกว่าด้วย

A note to myself- Dare to let go of something that doesn’t work. Don’t lie to yourself that it is still working when it slows you down and makes life so difficult. Get over that mental hurdle.

As someone allergic to modern technology, these activities are so much more my kind of things. (I thought it best not to show you my new computer and show these instead.)

สำหรับคนที่แพ้เทคโนโลยีสมัยใหม่อย่างฉันกิจกรรมข้างล่างนี้เป็นของชอบ (คิดว่าถ้าจะไม่โชว์คอมพ์เครื่องใหม่แล้วโชว์อย่างอื่นจะดีกว่า)




I made many help bags with woven inserts.

This is one of the inserts which I designed and a friend got them woven for me in Mae Hong Son.



I knitted a white cape.

Why the white colour? I never knitted anything in white.

A loop scarf.

A beany.

I crocheted a hemp bag.

In order to manage the number of bananas which often rot before we could eat them all, I made the banana breads.

They taste like cakes.

I made bergamot shampoo to store in the fridge.

I tried some new varieties of sweet potatos.

Behind the Pictures

I bought my first issue of Martha Stewart Living (American edition) back in the late nineties. It was a luxury since the the magazine was not available anywhere here in Thailand. I tried to collect as many as I could right up to the present day. I have to say that although my life went through various degrees of changes, the DIY aspect of this magazine never failed to inspire me. This is why I am so happy to be included in this month's feature of Martha Stewart Living Thailand issue.

Winter morning

We are supposed to be having a cool season here. Every morning from my city apartment window I get this view. Kind of foggy, hazy but warm. It looks like this all day but it gets really hot by midday. The afternoon light is soft and beautiful.
นี่มันหน้าหนาว ตอนเช้านอกหน้าต่างคอนโดของเราจะมีวิวแบบนี้ ดูฝ้าๆเลือนๆแต่อากาศอุ่น หมอกนี้อยู่กับเราตลอดวันแต่พอเที่ยงหน่อยอากาศก็กลับมาร้อนเหมือนเดิม พอตกเย็นแสงแดดดูเบาลงดูอบอุ่นสวยงาม

I always wanted to make this pineapple upside down cake and this recipe is really easy. The part I like about making the cake is when I finally get to turn the whole thing upsaide down. Here's the result.
