Fun Weekend Workshop Day 2

I get to post this part a week later than expected. But here it is.

ตอนสองของวีคเอนด์เวิร์คชอบมาช้าไปหนึ่งอาทิตย์ค่ะ นี่ไง

Some of us swam in the moonlight before dinner the night before and nearly everyone had a swim after breakfast the next day. The weather on Sunday was partly cloudy and partly sunny. I am glad they all had a swim in the morning because by early afternoon, it was pouring with rain and I mean torrential rain.

คืนวันแรกมีคนในกลุ่มไปว่ายน้ำในแสงจันทร์ก่อนทานข้าวเย็นและวันต่อมาก็ไปเล่นน้ำก่อนทานข้าวเช้า อากาศในวันอาทิตย์เป็นลูกผสมระหว่างมีเมฆมากกับมีแดดบ้าง ที่จริงฉันดีใจที่พวกเขาไปว่ายน้ำแต่เช้าเพราะช่วงบ่ายฝนตกหนักเป็นพายุฝนเลย

We had to cancel the petanque tournament. Never mind. We had a lot to do anyway.
เราตั้งใจว่าจะมีการแข่งขันปาต็อง แต่ต้องยกเลิก ไม่เป็นไร มีอะไรให้ทำเยอะแยะ

There were 2 workshops happening at the same time. One was painting doll faces. Michel had prepared some wooden balls for the occasion. These doll faces, once dried will eventually be assembled with other body parts and would then be given back to these artists later.

มีเวิร์คช็อบ 2 อย่างที่ทุกคนต้องทำ อย่างแรกคือวาดหน้าตุ๊กตา มิเชลเป็นคนเตรียมหัวตุ๊กตาไม้ เมื่อระบายสีเสร็จและปล่อยทิ้งไว้จนแห้งแล้วเราจะส่งหัวตุ๊กตาคืนไปพร้อมกับตัวตุ๊กตา

The other project was making tassels. I got all the women to try this. They made some lovely things with the tassels.

อีกโปรเจ็กหนึ่งคือการทำพู่ไหมญี่ปุ่น เหมาะสำหรับสาวๆในกลุ่ม หลังจากนั้นก็นำมาแปรรูปเป็นอะไรน่ารักๆ

The children liked to take part. Anything to do with making things was good enough for them.

Among us, there was an animation designer, Pop. He kept himself busy making portraits of us. My picture is on the bottom right and Michel's picture is on the bottom left.  We are all so charming as you can see. We like these pictures of us better than photos.

ในกลุ่มของเรามีนักออกแบบแอนิเมชั่นหนึ่งคนคือป๊อป เขานั่งวาดรูปพอร์เทรตของพวกเราทุกคน ภาพฉันอยู่ด้านล่างข้างขวา ส่วนภาพของมิเชลอยู่ด้านซ้าย มองรวมๆแล้วพวกเราดูมีเสน่ห์ไม่เบา โดยส่วนตัวแล้วฉันกับมิเชลชอบรูปวาดเราสองคนมากกว่ารูปถ่าย

I have to mention that the children were so artistic. They were drawing wonderful pictures all the time.

Fun Weekend Workshop Day 1

Busy Hands

What a busy weekend we have had and what a lot of fun. We didn’t think we had enough time but we finally got a lot done.

เมื่อลองวีคเอนด์ที่ผ่านมาเรามีอะไรทำเยอะมาก นึกว่าเวลาไม่พอ แต่ในที่สุดก็ทำได้หลายอย่าง

I would describe last weekend workshop as a reunion + art and craft party. It all started when a group of former students decided to visit us in Khao Yai. There were 8 of them (2 small children included). They didn't want a typical weekend in Khao Yai because all of them have been to this area a few times. They just wanted to get together, make things and have fun. Since these people have art and design background, it was highly appropriate to stage a workshop where we could all join in. So this is what happened in Day 1.

วีคเอนด์ที่ผ่านมาว่าเป็นอะไรคล้ายๆกับงานคืนสู่เหย้าบวกปาร์ตี้ศิลปะและงานทำมือ เริ่มจากศิษย์เก่าจากสมัยที่ฉันเคยสอนที่จุฬาฯอยากจะมาเที่ยวบ้านเราที่เขาใหญ่ มีทั้งหมด 8 คน ในกลุ่มมีหนูน้อยตัวเล็กๆอีก 2 เขาไม่อยากให้เป็นการเที่ยววันหยุดแบบธรรมดาๆเพราะว่าเขาเคยมาเขาใหญ่กันแล้วหลายครั้ง เขาอยากจะมาพบปะสังสรรค์ ประดิษฐ์อะไรด้วยกัน และเอ็นจอย ทุกคนจะมีพื้นฐานศิลปะและการออกแบบเป็นทุนอยู่แล้ว เราเลยจัดเวิร์คชอบแบบที่ทุกคนทำได้ นี่คือเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในวันแรก

We had a little batik and tie dye workshop. We all got our hands dyed in the process. The children got totally involved.

เราทำเวิร์คชอบบาติกและมัดย้อม ได้ย้อมมือเราไปในตัว เด็กร่วมผสมโรงด้วยอย่างแข็งขัน

The wax drawing was a bit tricky but look at what they could do.

ขี้ผึ้งร้อนดูเหมือนยากแต่เขาทำให้ดูเหมือนง่าย

Between swimming, eating, laughing and chatting, we surprised ourselves with what we created. Excellent work if you ask me.

วันนั้นมีกิจกรรมว่ายน้ำ ทานขนม หัวเราะ และคุยกัน แต่เราประหลาดใจในครีเอชั่นของเรา ขอบอกว่าสวยเริ่ดจริงๆ

A Quiet Evening

Things have been pretty hectic since I got back from a working trip in Chiangmai. We managed to spend a week in Khao Yai. I made some dresses and I finished a good portion of serious work there. I am still busy and I feel I need some time to get everything back to normal state. What is a normal state? Here are some pictures from my balcony in Bangkok.

ช่วงนี้ชีวิตค่อนข้างยุ่งเหยิงวุ่นวายตั้งแต่กลับจากทำงานที่เชียงใหม่ แต่เราสองคนก็แอบไปซุ่มพักฟื้นที่เขาใหญ่หนึ่งอาทิตย์ ฉันได้เย็บเสื้อสองสามตัวและทำงานซีเรียสจนเสร็จ ตอนนี้ยังยุ่งอยู่ คงอีกสักพักทุกอย่างคงจะกลับมาเป็นปกติ ความปกติคืออะไรหรือ? มีรูปกรุงเทพมาให้ดู ถ่ายจากนอกชานหลังบ้าน

and last night after a sudden downpour. The image reminds me of the Hitchcock's "Rear Window" or Tran Anh Hung's "Cyclo".

We rented "Il Postino" last night and I love the quote in the movie, "The world is a metaphore for something".

เราไปเช่าหนังเรื่อง"Il Postino"มาดูเมื่อคืน ชอบวลีในเรื่องที่ว่า โลกเป็นคำอุปมาที่ทำให้เห็นภาพบางอย่าง....
